Welcome to the Basan Lab

Quantitative biology on cellular and organism scales

  • intestinal bacteria

    Phenotypic diversity

  • drosophila mutants

    Tissue homeostasis

  • escherichia coli

    Tradeoffs and metabolic strategies

  • staphylococcus saprophyticus

    Starvation and stress survival

The goal of our lab is to gain a quantitative and predictive understanding of biological systems, beyond individual molecular interactions and circuits, on the level of phenotypes and physiology at the cellular and organism scale.

We use the well-characterized model organisms E. coli and Drosophila melanogaster, to take advantage of a large body of scientific work and vast genetic toolkits. Oftentimes, we address the same questions in different contexts using bacteria and flies.
